Artists Bid for for Custom Art Projects

The American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) found some interesting information on a Blog from Dwell Magazine. Etsy, an online crafts market, has a feature called Alchemy that allows users to post requests for custom items along with a proposed price. Crafters and artisans then bid on the opportunity to make it. Blogger Michael Cannell remarks "It appears Etsy is tapping into something with seismic rumblings, but what? A craft phenomenon? A backlash against brands? A shift in the way we shop?"
